Dr. Penelope Buechner is a board certified veterinary ophthalmologist practicing in the New England area. Penelope is a dog and cat ophthalmologist to many pets, and will also evaluate exotics. Penelope started her career in veterinary medicine in 2003, when she graduated from the Saskatchewan Institute of Applied Science and Technology at the top of her veterinary technology class. She then worked as a veterinary technician at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine, in Saskatchewan Canada, as an ophthalmology technician and discovered her passion for veterinary ophthalmology.
In 2006, she achieved early admission to the Western College of Veterinary Medicine following two years of undergraduate studies. Penelope graduated with distinction in 2010 and received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine. She then completed a one-year rotating small animal medicine and surgery internship at Texas A&M University, College of Veterinary Medicine in 2010. Following the internship, she was accepted to a three-year comparative ophthalmology residency with Eye Care for Animals in Phoenix, Arizona, which she completed in June 2014. She completed her board examinations and is a board certified diplomat of the American College of Veterinary Medicine. Penelope had practiced in Edmonton, Canada as a veterinary ophthalmologist from 2015-2022, prior to relocating with her family to the beautiful New England area.
Her area of research interest is corneal disease and she has published in the Veterinary Ophthalmology Journal. Penelope is excited about continuing her ophthalmology career in the New England area, as it brings her closer to her family. When not working, Penelope enjoys camping, hiking and spending time with her husband, two beautiful children and her English Labrador, Rufus.
