Dr. Katharyn Gilmartin has been a proud resident of Waxhaw, NC, since 2015, where she lives with her two sons, two female orange cats (Seven and Sammy), and her blue heeler, Storm. Originally from Jacksonville, NC, Dr. Gilmartin was raised in Southampton, NY, and brings a wealth of diverse experiences to her veterinary practice.
Before pursuing veterinary medicine, Dr. Gilmartin earned a Bachelor of Science in Marketing, Transportation, and Logistics from the University of Maryland, College Park. She then went on to earn a second Bachelor of Science in Microbiology from Colorado State University, where she also attended the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, graduating with her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) in 2006.
Following graduation, Dr. Gilmartin completed a one-year internship in small animal medicine and surgery at VCA South Shore Animal Hospital in Massachusetts. She practiced general and emergency medicine in northern Boston for four years before shifting her focus to general practice and nonprofit work in 2011.
Dr. Gilmartin is passionate about both the medical and surgical aspects of veterinary care and is deeply committed to strengthening the human-animal bond. She strives to help pet owners achieve the highest quality of life for their pets through preventive care and wellness strategies. With a special interest in dental care and surgery, Dr. Gilmartin has also volunteered or worked with various humane societies and nonprofit organizations throughout her career.
Outside of her professional life, Dr. Gilmartin enjoys running, gardening, hiking, and traveling to the beach or mountains. She is also an active member of her church and cherishes time spent with her sons, animals, family, and friends.
Dr. Gilmartin is excited to work in an environment that provides high-quality medicine and compassionate care for pets and their families.
