Dr. Jeffrey Poulsen

Associate Veterinarian

DVM

Dr. Jeff Poulsen joined our team in 2020, bringing a wealth of experience in emergency veterinary medicine and a calming presence that puts both patients and team members at ease. Before becoming a veterinarian, he worked as a veterinary technician for five years, giving him a deep appreciation for all aspects of hospital teamwork.

Dr. Poulsen earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Texas A&M University in May 2012. In addition to his work at the hospital, he serves as a Veterinary Corps Officer in the United States Army Reserve. Balancing his dedication to his clients, military service, and the demands of fatherhood—raising four children—he remains highly sought after in the community.

A skilled surgeon, Dr. Poulsen specializes in dental, orthopedic, and soft tissue procedures. He has extensive experience in fracture repair, utilizing plates, pins, rods, and other fixation techniques. Since 2022, he has been performing tibial plateau-leveling osteotomy (TPLO) and recently began extracapsular cranial cruciate ligament repairs using the OrthoSta technique. His expertise extends to complex abdominal procedures, including gastric dilatation-volvulus (GDV) correction, splenectomy, intestinal foreign body removal, cystotomy, and the management of septic peritonitis.

Before moving to Sandpoint, Dr. Poulsen spent seven years practicing full-time emergency medicine, honing his skills in advanced diagnostics and critical care management. His ability to swiftly assess and treat urgent cases makes him an invaluable member of our team.
