Dr. Black is a native Dallisite and graduated from Greenhill School in 1979. Although veterinary medicine was his earliest aspiration, his professional life took other paths for several years. Upon graduation from Southwestern University in 1983, he became a real estate appraiser and broker in Dallas. In 1986, Dr. Black enrolled in law school and earned his law degree from Santa Clara University in California in 1988. Even as he began practicing law, Dr. Black knew that he had to pursue his childhood wish to become a veterinarian.

Dr. Black attended the College of Veterinary Medicine at Texas A&M and graduated in 1996. He began practicing veterinary medicine at VCA Park Cities Animal Hospital soon after. Since that time, he has enjoyed the satisfaction and rewards that come from doing what he loves most, which is caring for companion animals and their people.
