Dr. Cantu grew up in a small town deep in South Texas in the Rio Grande Valley, better known as the RGV. She attended Texas A&M University in College Station, where she earned her bachelor's degree in biomedical sciences. Before heading to veterinary school, she spent time working as a veterinary technician in both Mexico and the United States, experiences that helped shape her love for veterinary medicine and patient care. She later made her way to the Caribbean to attend Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine and completed her clinical year at the University of Missouri in Columbia before graduating with her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 2025.
Dr. Cantu has a special place in her heart for feline patients, as well as those who may be a little more nervous or stressed about coming to the veterinarian. She wants every patient to have the best experience possible and enjoys finding ways to make their visit feel a little less scary and a lot more comfortable.
She is still at a point in her career where she loves a little bit of everything veterinary medicine has to offer. She especially enjoys internal medicine, cardiology, and ultrasound, along with those cases that make her stop, think, and really put all the pieces together. She loves that veterinary medicine gives her the opportunity to keep learning something new every day.
Outside of work, Dr. Cantu enjoys practicing mindfulness, birdwatching, and doing crafts while watching tv with her partner. At home, they have a goofy dog named Oliver and three cats. All who keep life plenty entertaining. Dr. Cantu is excited to join the team and start this new chapter in Chicago! She is especially looking forward to being part of a diverse and inclusive community, and getting to know all of her new patients and their families!
