Laparoscopy

WSVA is the only general practice in western suburbs performing minimally invasive surgery. With minimally invasive surgery, holes roughly the size of a pencil are made, one for the camera (laparoscope) and one or two others for instruments. The surgeon maneuvers the tools while looking at a video screen. Laparoscopic surgery allows for better visualization of abdominal organs.

Some benefits of minimally invasive surgery:

  • a smaller incision site
  • less post-operative pain
  • quicker recovery times
  • Less stress and trauma

Minimally invasive procedures include:

  • Spay
  • Liver Biopsies
  • Intestinal biopsies
  • Gastropexy (stomach tacking to prevent bloat in larger dogs)

Laparoscopic Spay and Neutering

We are proud to offer laparoscopic spay and neutering for pets. Typical recovery for a non-laparoscopic spay might be as long as two weeks. That can mean pain and discomfort and a long time for a puppy to not run and play. However, a minimally invasive spay is safer and recovery is approximately 48 hours.
