Back in 2010, Dr. Kira Hulsing's career in medicine started in human Dentistry on the assisting side of the profession for Indian Health Service (IHS) Bristol Bay Area Health Corporation in rural Alaska. While travelling to rural communities to provide access to dental care, Dr. Hulsing studied at University of Alaska Fairbanks at its Rural Campus, aiming to eventually become a veterinarian. As her courses for Bachelor of Science in Biology program advanced, Dr. Hulsing had to relocate to Fairbanks, Alaska where she continued working for a private Dental office with Prosthodontist while taking classes. Dr. Hulsing also attended several veterinary clinics for mini-externships to gather veterinary experience. In addition, she started volunteering for Fairbanks North Star Borough Animal Control/Shelter.
In 2018, Dr. Hulsing was admitted to the University of Alaska Fairbanks / Colorado State University Collaborative Veterinary Program with its professional graduate curriculum for the first two academic years in Fairbanks, Alaska and years 3-4 in Fort Collins, Colorado.
Dr. Hulsing graduated from Colorado State University College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences in 2022 with Excellence in Veterinary Dentistry Award. After graduation,
Dr. Hulsing started working in Wasilla Veterinary Clinic back in Alaska where she had completed a couple of rotational externships as a part of her veterinary school studies. Through the years, as Dr. Hulsing's veterinary experience grew so did her network of colleagues from Dentists to Hygienists and Assistants, Veterinarians and Technicians, and Animal Control Staff—people that Dr. Hulsing is thankful for sharing their knowledge and for providing their continued support and understanding. Recently, Dr. Hulsing moved with her family to Minnesota where she joined VCA Animal Wellness Center of Maple Grove.
Her professional interest in veterinary practice includes but is not limited to dentistry and soft tissue surgery, ophthalmology, nutrition, dermatology and preventative medicine.
When not working, Dr. Hulsing enjoys spending time with her family and friends.
