Vaccines are a basic but essential component of preventative medicine. The primary goal of vaccination is to REDUCE disease prevalence, symptoms and ultimately animal AND human suffering. Vaccines are designed to stimulate an immune response and provide long-term protection, but do require a proper administration and a boostering protocol. Young animals (puppies and kittens) are at increased risk for contracting viral and bacterial infections. As a result, it is imperative we start vaccinations at an appropriate age, booster in a timely manner, and minimize their exposure to potential pathogens before their immune systems are mature.
The Doctors at VCA Central Kitsap Animal Hospital are familiar with local disease prevalence, local and state ordinances in regards to required vaccination (Rabies), vaccine requirements for domestic and international travel and vaccination recommendations as implemented by AAHA (American Animal Hospital Association) and AAFP (American Association of Feline Practitioners). Vaccination recommendations and protocols will be discussed at each wellness exam and tailored to meet the needs of each individual pet.
