Dr. Lindsey Nielsen obtained her Bachelor of Science in Biology from SUNY Albany in Albany, NY. She then completed her veterinary degree at Tufts Cumming School of Veterinary Medicine, graduating in 2009. From there she went to Connecticut for a year long small animal rotating internship at the Veterinary Referral and Emergency Center of Norwalk, CT. Following that, she completed a three year residency in emergency and critical care at Angell Animal Medical Center in Boston, MA. For the last five years Dr. Nielsen has practiced in Northern California and New Mexico before joining the SVRC team in Sacramento.
Dr. Nielsen has a special interest in pancreatitis, acute kidney injury, cardiac emergencies, and sepsis. She loves that her job allows her to work with specialists in many areas, helping critically ill pets through surgery, neurology, oncology, and more. She has been published several times on topics including pancreatitis, acute kidney injury, compartment syndrome, and feline heart disease. Another passion of hers is to share her knowledge by providing CE to the surrounding community and teaching those on the floor in the moment. At home she spends her time with her husband, three cats (all named after characters from Buffy the Vampire Slayer), and a few rescue dogs. She loves writing, reading, vegan cooking, and all things science fiction or fantasy.
