Dr. Yazdan Aryazand (or Dr. Yaz, as he's known) is a foreign graduate, having obtained his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in Iran prior to moving to the United States. Dr. Yaz completed a post-doctoral fellowship at Cornell University, where he spent a year doing research. He subsequently published an article on the infection rate of TPLO in the Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association (JAVMA).
Dr. Yaz completed a small animal medicine and surgery internship at the Veterinary Medical Center of Long Island in New York, followed by a specialty surgery internship at Dallas Veterinary Surgical Center in Texas. He completed a surgical residency at VCA West Los Angeles Animal Hospital, after which he joined the VCA Veterinary Specialists of the Valley team in Woodland Hills, California.
Dr. Yaz has a keen interest in clinical research and is interested in all aspects of surgery, with a particular interest in minimally invasive surgery (laparoscopy, thoracoscopy, arthroscopy, interventional radiology) and fracture repair.
Dr. Yaz lives in Los Angeles with his wife (also a veterinarian), son, and dog—Soren, a sassy Jack Russell mix. He is a professional chess player, so you can find him competing in chess tournaments in his free time.
