Megan was born in Florida, but then moved to Plano, Texas at five months old, where she was raised. She's always loved animals, and when she was younger, her family had a dog that suddenly fell ill. The experience made her want to get into the field of veterinary medicine so that she would never have to wonder why her pets were sick. She originally started with VCA Preston Park as an intern in November 2012, but she didn't join the team in an official capacity until August 2019.
Megan is Cat Friendly Certified and holds a special veterinary interest in ophthalmology and cases of blindness. Her favorite part of her job is watching our patients grow from the first time they see us as puppies or kittens to happy, healthy adults. In cases with sick pets, she loves seeing them heal and becoming one of our hospital's success stories. Megan believes every pet owner ought to know that we do this work because we love to help animals; the paycheck is just a bonus.
At home, Megan has Hope, her Jack Russell Terrier mix. Hope was brought to our hospital as a stray in need. Megan had just lost her chihuahua at the time, so when Hope came in and needed a home, she felt like it was fate. Hope's name came from the pup giving Megan's family the hope that they'd have another great dog and from the hope that they gave to the pup that not all humans are bad. She's since grown to become a spunky, sassy, and very sweet girl. She is also blind, which is partly why Megan has a fondness for helping patients in cases concerning the eyes and blindness.
If Megan were an animal, she would love to be a hippo. Not only are they her favorite animal, but she would love the ability to crush a whole watermelon in a single bite. Powerful and cool. The best piece of advice she's been given came from her father: "You can't change people. You can only change how you react to them."
At home, Megan loves to hang out with her two young boys, Cashel and Kilian. She and her husband, alongside them, love to find and explore new parks. They also really enjoy going camping, and Hope loves to perch on the paddleboard with Megan if they get into the water.
