Hometown Care at Our Hospital

VCA Wexford Animal Hospital is a full-service veterinary practice established over 65 years ago. Dr. Jim Childress founded the hospital to provide a high standard of medical care and excellent client service within the community. His legacy has lived on through the work we continue daily. Our compassionate team of over 40 staff members is committed to helping our patients live long, happy, and healthy lives with their families. We provide comprehensive medical, surgical, and dental care for cats and dogs in Wexford, Cranberry Township, McCandless, Hampton Township, Sewickley, Mars, Gibsonia, and the surrounding areas.

Since 1975, VCA Wexford has been proudly accredited by the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA). The AAHA is an international association of more than 42,000 veterinary care providers who treat companion animals. Established in 1933, AAHA is well known among veterinarians and pet owners for its standards for hospitals and pet health care. Approximately 15% of veterinary hospitals in North America voluntarily participate in the AAHA hospital evaluation program and are accredited. Consultants periodically visit these hospitals to ensure compliance with AAHA’s standards for services and facilities. The standards developed and published by AAHA are widely accepted as components of veterinary practice that represent high quality care. These standards are periodically reviewed and updated to ensure that they remain consistent with evolving knowledge and technology.

We also understand that cats are not small dogs! They have unique personalities and traits that our staff and veterinarians appreciate and respect. For this reason, we have taken extra efforts to make veterinary visits for our feline patients minimally stressful. Several of our team members have earned recognition as Cat Friendly Professionals by the American Association of Feline Practitioners (AAFP) as part of their personal commitments to feline health. Furthermore, additional members of our team are Fear Free Certified to ensure that we may provide positive veterinary office visit experiences to all of our feline and canine patients, as well as their family members.

Our compassionate team is thankful to our loyal clients, many of whose families we have served for multiple generations and decades, and many of whom we now consider friends. We have grown tremendously over the years, but our purpose remains the same—provide progressive patient care, a positive client/patient experience, maximum support for our dedicated staff, and reinvestment in the hospital so that we may continue to provide for the pets in our community for decades to come. Welcome to our family!

American Animal Hospital Association

The American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) sets the standard for quality veterinary care for companion animals. As an accredited hospital, we voluntarily uphold the Association's high standards in 18 different areas and are routinely evaluated on over 900 different standards of veterinary care. Not all animal hospitals are accredited, and we are proud to be amongst only 12-15% of veterinary hospitals that hold this honor.
