Dr. Margaret Jacks is an associate veterinarian at VCA Flannery Animal Hospital in New Windsor, NY. She is passionate about helping animals and supporting the families who love them, especially during challenging and unexpected medical situations. Her approach to veterinary medicine focuses on providing compassionate care, easing fear and anxiety, and helping pet owners feel supported and informed when making decisions about their pet's health.
Dr. Jacks earned her Bachelor of Science in Animal Sciences from Auburn University in 2016, followed by a Master of Agriculture in Animal Sciences, with a focus on Food Microbiology and Food Safety, in 2017. After spending time working in food safety in Northern Virginia, she returned to her passion for veterinary medicine and joined Auburn University's Small Animal Emergency and Critical Care department as a veterinary assistant. She worked full time in emergency and critical care for two and a half years before veterinary school and continued part-time for another three and a half years while earning her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 2026.
Her background in emergency and critical care helped shape her interest in managing complex medical cases and supporting pets during some of their most vulnerable moments. Dr. Jacks has special interests in emergency and critical care, dermatology, ophthalmology, and neurology. She is Fear Free Certified, RECOVER CPR Basic and Advanced Life Support Certified, and a Cat Friendly Professional.
For Dr. Jacks, one of the most meaningful parts of veterinary medicine is being there for pets and their owners on their hardest days. She recognizes that medical emergencies can be frightening and overwhelming, and she strives to be a source of comfort for both pets and their families. Her approach is to be a compassionate advocate for her patients while providing honest, realistic guidance to help owners navigate difficult decisions. She believes that caring for an animal means caring for the people who love them, too.
After growing up in the South, Dr. Jacks is excited to begin a new chapter in New York with her husband, Ryan, and their two cats. She looks forward to becoming part of the local community and building relationships with the pets and families she serves at VCA Flannery Animal Hospital.
