Dr. Leonardo Ramírez Rubio earned his Bachelor of Animal Science from the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez Campus, followed by his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of Florida, College of Veterinary Medicine. He joined VCA in 2025.
Originally from Puerto Rico, Dr. Ramírez Rubio was born and raised on the island's west side. He comes from a culturally rich background, with family roots in Cuba and Spain, whose members moved to Puerto Rico seeking greater opportunities and a better quality of life.
Dr. Ramírez Rubio has a special interest in preventive medicine and surgery, and is passionate about helping pets feel better while strengthening the bond between animals and their families. He finds great fulfillment in supporting pets and their people through every stage of life, from first puppy visits to recovery after illness or surgery.
Outside of the hospital, Dr. Ramírez Rubio enjoys spending his time outdoors, especially at the beach. He loves paddleboarding, swimming in the ocean, and playing friendly soccer matches in the afternoons. He also shares his home with a talkative pet bird named Echo, who greets him every morning.
Dr. Ramírez Rubio is committed to treating every patient with compassion and care, as if they were his own.
