Frequently Asked Questions About Kitten Prep and Supplies

When preparing for a new kitten, you’ll want to ensure you have all the supplies you need and that you have kitten-proofed your home. Plan ahead on how to introduce your kitten to their new family members, and ensure you have safe zones for them and any other pets in the home. Your future VCA care team is happy to discuss kitten prep with you so that you’ll be ready to bring a kitten home.

An essential part of bringing a kitten home when you already have a resident cat is to become familiar with how to introduce a kitten to a cat. Provide separate safe spaces for both cats. It’s a good idea to keep your new kitten separate from the family cat so that the new kitten can adjust to a specific room while the resident cat adjusts to the new kitten’s smell. Keep the initial introductions short and sweet, and don’t leave the cats unattended together until you’re sure it’s safe for both cats.

You’ll want to make sure you have everything for your kitten’s resting, playing, grooming, scratching, elimination, dietary and travel needs. Review the new kitten supplies checklist to ensure you’re not forgetting anything!
