Laura Slater
Staff Veterinarian DVM

In 1990 Laura graduated from Texas A&M's College of Veterinary Medicine, she then completed an internship and a year of general practice at Sacramento Animal Medical Group. Laura began practicing emergency and critical care medicine in private practice in southern California before joining VCA Animal Care Center in 1996 as an emergency clinician. She has a special interest in emergency surgery.

Approximately once a year, Laura donates her time and skills to participate with an HSVMA-RAVS (Humane Society Veterinary Medical Association-Rural Area Veterinary Services) group that goes to developing countries and teaches veterinarians and veterinary students basic surgical principles of sterility, tissue handling, knot tying, etc. as well as teaching spay and neuter techniques, and how to perform safe anesthesia in dogs and cats. She has gone to Bolivia, Guatemala, El Salvador, Costa Rica, and the Bahamas for these trips. Laura also enjoys playing tennis in her spare time.
