Helping pets enjoy the best possible quality of life is what inspires Dr. Larissa Menke every day. At VCA South Arundel Animal Hospital in Edgewater, Maryland, she combines compassionate, personalized care with advanced surgical expertise to help pets thrive while giving families the confidence to make informed decisions about their pet's care. Whether your pet is visiting for preventive care, treatment of a medical condition, or surgery, Dr. Menke is committed to reducing pain, restoring function, and helping pets get back to the families who love them.
To Dr. Menke, veterinary medicine is about much more than diagnosing and treating disease. She believes every family deserves to understand their pet's diagnosis, treatment options, and recovery plan so they can move forward with confidence. By taking the time to educate clients, answer questions, advocate for her patients, and develop personalized treatment plans, she helps families feel supported throughout every step of their pet's care.
"Every surgical procedure is an opportunity to relieve pain, restore function, and help pets get back to the lives they love.”
Dr. Menke earned her Bachelor of Science in Marine Sciences with a minor in Zoology from the University of Florida before receiving her veterinary degree from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine. She completed her clinical year at University College Dublin in Ireland, where her passion for surgery flourished. Following several years in general practice, she pursued advanced surgical training through a rotating internship and two specialty surgical internships, developing extensive experience in soft tissue surgery and complex surgical procedures. She is also Fear Free Certified and a Certified Aquatic Veterinarian (CertAqV).
Building on that advanced training, Dr. Menke performs a broad range of surgical procedures, from routine spays and neuters to advanced soft tissue surgery, abdominal procedures, gastrointestinal surgery, bladder surgery, mass removals with reconstructive techniques, splenectomy, gastropexy, amputations, and other complex procedures. Her goal is to help more pets receive advanced surgical care close to home while partnering with families throughout every stage of their pet's treatment and recovery.
“Every pet deserves an advocate, and every family deserves to feel confident that their pet is receiving exceptional surgical care.”
Whether your pet is visiting for preventive care, treatment of a medical condition, or surgery, Dr. Menke is committed to providing compassionate veterinary care built on trust, advanced medical expertise, and open communication. She looks forward to partnering with pet owners throughout Edgewater and the surrounding Anne Arundel County communities, helping every family feel confident their pet is receiving exceptional care.
