Dr. Steen received his veterinary degree from the Ohio State University in 1999 (Go Bucks!). He completed a one year rotating internship at VCA Alameda East Veterinary Hospital the following year and was offered a staff position in 2000.
He went on to become a partner at VCA Alameda East in 2003. He achieved diplomate status in the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners in 2006, specializing in canine and feline medicine. He has been Medical Director for the General Practice since 2004 and has helped grow the General Practice at VCA Alameda East into one of the busiest practices in the state.
His professional interests include preventative care, infectious disease, feline medicine and general surgery. He has become proficient in laparoscopic surgery and performs several minimally invasive procedures including spays and gastropexies.
Dr. Steen helps care for the Denver and Aurora police dogs, the bomb dogs at DIA and the TSA working dogs. He also in actively involved in several local rescue organizations including Safe Harbor Lab Rescue and Small Dog Rescue.
