Dr. Geiger received his BS from M.I.T. in 1999, DVM from Cornell University in 2003, and completed a residency in veterinary neurology and neurosurgery at the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine in 2009. He passed the ACVIM Neurology certifying exam in 2010, with board certification awaiting Master's thesis defense. He previously completed a rotating internship in small animal medicine and surgery at the Veterinary Specialty Hospital of San Diego, and completed additional training in neuroimaging, neurosurgery, and emergency/critical care at Canada West Veterinary Specialists. Dr. Geiger established the first neurology and neurosurgery service in San Francisco, and developed and operated full-time neurology/neurosurgery departments at several SF Bay Area area hospitals for the next decade. He also helped to launch the only dedicated veterinary neurology center in New Mexico. More recently, Dr. Geiger spent several years providing locum tenens and part-time clinical and consulting services to numerous multispecialty hospitals across the United States, including at VCA-ASG.
Dr. Geiger is proficient in all areas of medical and surgical neurology and neuroimaging and especially enjoys teaching students, interns, and residents. He finds complex, difficult cases especially rewarding and pays careful attention to every patient and family. He has lectured internationally and authored/collaborated on multiple publications. He is a past president of the San Francisco Veterinary Medical Association and member of the AVMA, Veterinary Neurosurgical Society, and British Veterinary Neurology Society. He frequently compares notes with his wife, who is an endocrine surgeon (for humans!). When not working, he enjoys exploring offshore and inland waterways by boat and backroads and trails by motorcycle, applying his green thumb to the East County landscape, and catering to the whims of their elderly cat, Don Julio.
