Dr. Berger-Bishop grew up in Norway, Tanzania, and Kenya, and came to the U.S. to go to college. Her interest in biology was fueled by a mother who studied human parasites, and an adventurous family that spent all vacations on camping safaris.
Dr. Berger-Bishop received double Bachelor of Arts degrees in biology and art from Kalamazoo College, MI. Her interest in biology led her into research as a career, and she worked in various fields including marine biology, plant pathology, and phytoremediation (using plants to clean up industrial and chemically contaminated sites). She received her master's degree in Herpetology at James Madison University, spending two spring seasons in the mountains collecting and studying salamanders. She enjoyed learning so much that she then went back to school for her DVM at the University of Georgia (go DAWGS!). She received her CVA in acupuncture in 2013.
At VCA Palmetto Animal Hospital, Dr. Berger-Bishop is currently working in Emergency Medicine. Her areas of special interest include soft tissue surgery, acupuncture, parasitology, and exotics (particularly reptiles) if they can be squeezed in between emergencies. She loves to teach and feels that it is important as a veterinarian to be able to communicate information to clients that can help them care for their pets in the best possible way. She herself strives to continue to learn and improve her skills and knowledge; she believes in providing the highest quality of medicine for pets and the best client experience for their owners.
When not at work, Dr. Berger-Bishop loves growing bromeliads, jewelry making, walking the beach, fishing, and spending time with her husband of 30 years. She has three pets: a Pomeranian and two mixed breed dogs.
