Dr. Suzanne Cook Olson was born and raised in Minnesota. She received her B.A. from St. Olaf College (Northfield, MN) and her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Minnesota in 1987. She completed a 1-year small animal medicine and surgery internship in 1988 at the University of Saskatchewan, and a 3-year residency in Small Animal Internal Medicine at the University of Tennessee in 1991. (Yep, that is a lot of school!) Dr. Cook practiced in specialty hospitals in Santa Cruz, CA (1991-1995) and Chicago (1995-2003) before relocating to the beautiful Pacific Northwest. She established the internal medicine referral service at VCA Central Kitsap Animal Hospital in 2003, and has served as Medical Director since 2011.
As a board-certified internist, Dr. Cook has the opportunity to partner with the doctors at VCA Central Kitsap as well as the regional veterinary community to help dogs and cats with challenging diagnoses, using advanced tools such as ultrasound and endoscopy. Dr. Cook can measure her adult life in Golden Retriever lifespans, and is happily raising the latest two in this series, Garth and Campbell. Loki the cat does his best to accept that there will always be Goldens. In her free time, Dr. Cook enjoys supporting her kids in their various endeavors (near and far), walking the dog, reading, hiking, and running. She lives in Poulsbo with her family, and is the mother of three young adults, including an active duty Army paratrooper, and has one granddaughter. Dr. Cook is proud to be a Fear Free Certified Professional, and pledges to hold each pet's emotional as well as physical well-being in mind at all times.
