Dr. Peneguy is a New Orleans native. She was born in 1969 and knew she wanted to be a veterinarian four years later when she watched Dr. Pelle deliver a litter of Dachshund puppies. She went to St. Pius X Grammar School and Mount Carmel High School. She was the first student to graduate from LSU with a Bachelor of Science in Animal Systems on the Vet school's three-plus-one program. Before going to Vet school she went to Orlando, Florida and worked at Walt Disney World for one summer. She graduated from LSU Veterinary School in 1995.

Mary Alice Shannon joined the Causeway Animal Hospital family in January 1995, after leaving the human side of medicine to work with animals. Her duties include managing all areas of the practice. She has always had a passion for animals since she was a child and she always had a family dog.
Mary Alice was born in Baton Rouge, but has been native to the New Orleans area since 1960. She has had the opportunity to live in several states and countries because her father was a dentist in the U.S. Army. She is a graduate of Riverdale High School and attended Phillips Junior College where she received her degree.
