Dr. Roel Becerra was born and raised in Mexico, where his passion for animals and science began at an early age. That passion led him on an impressive educational journey through some of the country's leading veterinary and research institutions.
He earned a bachelor's degree in Animal Science from Michigan State University, followed by a master's degree in Animal Science from North Carolina State University. Dr. Becerra then received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Purdue University before completing a Master of Avian Medicine, a PhD in Comparative Biomedical Sciences, and an MBA at the University of Georgia.
Throughout his education and early career, Dr. Becerra developed interests in companion animal medicine, avian medicine, emergency medicine, and biomedical research. His research has focused on infectious diseases affecting poultry, vaccine development, and improving animal health and welfare. He has authored scientific publications and presented his work at both regional and national veterinary conferences.
After several years in general practice, Dr. Becerra joined VCA Animal Hospitals to further develop his clinical, emergency, and surgical skills while pursuing advanced training in specialty medicine.
Outside of the hospital, Dr. Becerra enjoys traveling, exploring new cultures, spending time with family and friends, attending professional conferences, and relaxing at the beach. He is passionate about lifelong learning and is committed to advancing veterinary medicine through compassionate patient care, research, leadership, and mentorship.
