Jaime LaVelle, Emergency Veterinarian

DVM

Dr. Jaime LaVelle is originally from St. Louis, Missouri, which is where she earned her undergraduate degree in Anthropology from the University of Missouri-St. Louis. She majored in the sub-field of primatology and has performed several research projects on the behavior of non-humane primates at the St. Louis Zoo and abroad. After working as a veterinary technician for 8 years, she decided she wanted to become a veterinarian and attended the University of Missouri-Columbia, where she earned her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine. After graduation, she completed a one-year small animal medicine rotating internship at Friendship Hospital for Animals in Washington D.C. Before moving across country to live in the PNW, she worked for 3 years as an ER doctor at PVSEC (a Level 1 trauma center) in Pittsburgh, PA.

Her clinical interests include immune mediated diseases, infectious diseases, polytrauma, endocrinopathies, feline medicine, and wildlife conservation medicine.

In her free time, Dr. LaVelle enjoys exploring the city of Portland by bike, visiting local breweries and wineries, watching movies, reading comic books and Sci-Fi novels, perusing local bookstores, hanging out with friends, and traveling abroad with her husband, Dave. They share their home with Nanook, a 16-year-old handsome tabby.
