Dr. Jae Tobias is an experienced veterinary professional whose career has spanned emergency medicine, orthopedic and soft-tissue surgery, clinical research and hospital leadership.
Dr. Tobias earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of Florida in 2011. She subsequently completed a rotating small animal internship at the University of Tennessee, followed by a postdoctoral orthopedic fellowship focused on advanced musculoskeletal medicine and research. She later completed a surgical internship at VCA Advanced Veterinary Care Center and remained with the hospital as an emergency veterinarian, experiences that helped shape her collaborative approach to managing complex and critically ill surgical patients.
In 2016, Dr. Tobias joined VCA Northwood, where she led the hospital's surgical service and subsequently served as medical director. She later pursued advanced residency training in small animal surgery before returning to VCA Advanced Veterinary Care Center here, in Fishers, Indiana, where her practice is focused on surgery.
She particularly values the multidisciplinary nature of specialty medicine and works closely with colleagues across emergency and critical care, internal medicine, oncology, neurology, diagnostic imaging, ophthalmology, rehabilitation, and other specialty services.
She is also passionate about patient care, clinical quality improvement, evidence-based medicine, and developing systems that allow veterinary teams to provide consistently excellent care.
Dr. Tobias believes exceptional medicine depends not only on clinical expertise, but also on communication, accountability, mentorship and collaboration across the entire hospital. She is particularly passionate about developing veterinarians and veterinary technicians, fostering collaboration across services, improving patient-safety processes, and creating an environment in which team members feel supported while maintaining high standards of medical care. Outside of the hospital, Dr. Tobias enjoys indoor and outdoor sports, traveling, tackling projects around her home, and spending time with her pets. Having spent much of her professional career at AVCC, she considers the hospital and its team an important part of her own story. As medical director, she is honored to support the talented and dedicated team whose commitment to their patients makes exceptional care possible every day.
