Amy Sheil
Veterinarian DVM (Practice Limited to Surgery)

Dr. Amy Sheil, originally from Florida, moved to Alabama with her family at a young age. Though she is grateful for the move, which brought her to her beloved alma mater, Auburn University, Dr. Sheil is thrilled to be back in her home state, closer to family.

Dr. Sheil spent eight years at Auburn University, earning multiple degrees, including a bachelor's in animal science, a minor in Spanish, and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. While at Auburn's College of Veterinary Medicine, she was an active member of the professional fraternity Omega Tau Sigma. She also broadened her horizons through study abroad programs in Spain during her undergraduate years and in Chile while in veterinary school.

After graduating, Dr. Sheil worked as an emergency veterinarian in Decatur, AL, where she discovered her passion for surgery. This led her to pursue further training, starting with a rotating internship in small animal medicine and surgery at VCA Animal Referral and Emergency Center of Arizona (ARECA) in Mesa, AZ, which she completed in 2019. She then undertook two specialty internships in small animal surgery: first at VCA ARECA in 2020, and then at Veterinary Specialty Center in Buffalo Grove, IL, in 2021. Her most recent achievement is the completion of a three-year small animal surgical residency at VCA ARECA in 2024.

During her residency, Dr. Sheil was the primary author of a retrospective study that investigated the benefits of minimally invasive enteral nutritional support after gastrointestinal surgery. She is also an active member of several veterinary surgical organizations, including AOVet and the Veterinary Orthopedic Society. Her primary areas of interest include orthopedic and minimally invasive surgery, as well as wound management.

While veterinary medicine is Dr. Sheil's passion and life's work, she enjoys a variety of hobbies outside of her career. She loves spending time outdoors, especially near the ocean, and engages in paddleboarding, yoga, painting, and spending quality time with her three dogs.
