Originally from Texas, Dr. Shaila Raj holds a BS in microbiology and biology from The University of Texas at Arlington, a BS in animal science from The University of Massachusetts, and an MS in biomedical sciences from Colorado State University. She received her DVM from Colorado State University in May 2008.
Following veterinary school, Dr. Raj completed a rotating internship in small animal medicine, surgery, emergency, and radiology at VCA Alameda East Veterinary Hospital in Denver. Dr. Raj worked as an emergency veterinarian at Animal ER in Littleton and at VCA Veterinary Specialists of Northern Colorado in Loveland before returning to VCA Alameda East Veterinary Hospital as a staff emergency doctor for 11 years. She spent three years working as a relief doctor at several local emergency/urgent care facilities before deciding to join the VCA Travel DVM Program in the summer of 2025.
Her professional interests include wound repair, toxicology, and teaching. During her time off, in addition to spending time with her family, Dr. Raj enjoys muscle cars, electric guitars, and Siamese cats.
