Dr. Rensing was born and raised in southern California before moving north to attend the University of California, Davis. In 1995, earning highest honors, she graduated with a degree in zoology. She completed her doctoral studies in mixed animal practice at UC Davis in 2000, where she was also an Arques Scholar. Alex joined VCA Loomis Basin Veterinary Clinic in 2000. Her interests are in dentistry and improving the human-animal bond.
Alex and her husband, John, live with their children, Joshua, Ian, and Grace, in Newcastle and enjoy camping and growing fruits and vegetables. Their family also includes five dogs, three cats, two tortoises, a turtle, a snake, a fish, two leopard geckos, and a bunch of chickens.
