Dr. Austin Kyan is a Southern California native who grew up in Long Beach and developed a passion for science, medicine, and animals early in life. He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of California, Davis, before pursuing his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at Western University of Health Sciences.
Following veterinary school, Dr. Kyan completed a small animal rotating internship at VCA West Los Angeles and went on to further his advanced training through a specialty internship at VCA Animal Specialty & Emergency Center. These experiences helped cultivate his interest in complex cardiovascular disease and advanced cardiac diagnostics.
Dr. Kyan has a particular professional interest in electrophysiology and electrocardiography (EKGs), and he enjoys the diagnostic challenges and problem-solving aspects of cardiology. He is dedicated to providing thoughtful, evidence-based care and partnering closely with pet owners and referring veterinarians to achieve the best possible outcomes for his patients.
Outside of the hospital, Dr. Kyan is an avid musician and enjoys playing string instruments with community orchestras throughout Southern California. At home, he is kept company by his two feline companions: Essie, a brown tabby domestic medium hair, and Sylvester, a black domestic shorthair.
