Dr. Justin Garretto began his veterinary career in his home state of New York, first earning a degree in Veterinary Technology from SUNY Delhi before completing a Bachelor of Science in Cell and Molecular Biology at SUNY Oneonta. He went on to earn his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine with Honors from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine, completing his clinical training at The Ohio State University.
Dedicated to advancing his expertise in cardiology, Dr. Garretto completed a small animal rotating internship in medicine and surgery at Virginia Tech, followed by a specialty internship in cardiology at VCA Animal Specialty and Emergency Center. He then pursued a cardiology residency at VCA West Los Angeles, where he further developed his skills in diagnosing and treating complex cardiovascular conditions.
Dr. Garretto's professional interests encompass both medical and interventional cardiology, with a particular passion for improving quality of life and long-term outcomes for pets living with heart disease. He is committed to delivering compassionate, evidence-based care while fostering strong partnerships with pet owners and referring veterinarians to ensure the best possible patient outcomes.
Outside the hospital, Dr. Garretto enjoys exploring Southern California's beaches and hiking trails, browsing local farmers' markets, discovering new restaurants, and seeking out the area's best coffee shops. He shares his home with Biscotti, an orange-and-white rescue cat he adopted while living in St. Kitts.
